Living Unlimited (LU) is the umbrella organization that oversees Mustang Court Commons (MCC). LU facilitated the purchase of the MCC property and continues to provide oversight in project development.

The business model

MCC will be comprised of the “anchor” property with Mustang Acres on site. Following the clustered suburban home concept, there will be multiple homes within walking distance nearby with their own features and amenities, such as hot tub, barbeque area, or swings. These will be determined by the residents of each home.

Each home within this cluster is owned by an LLC. The managing member of each LLC is Living Unlimited (LU). LU provides business and legal support, property management services and general oversight.

The investment features of the business model include:

  • It is an equity investment

  • It is not a donation

  • It can be resold

  • It provides rights to 1 bedroom

  • The ownership is for perpetuity

Support services

MCC residents are individuals with disabilities, and some may have medical needs. They require care giver support for safety, participation in activities of daily living, and management and administration of medication. The primary caregiver support will come from Supported Living Services (SLS) provided by independent agencies. This is an arrangement that individual families will work with the Regional Center to arrange.

Other support services that residents will or may receive include:

  • Day Program through the Regional Center

  • Employment (if applicable) through the California Employment Development Department and the California Department of Rehabilitation
  • Commons Manager

  • Live-in Home Companions

The people

We are parents of adult children with disabilities who have come together with like-minded parents, who are looking for long-term housing solutions. We come from different backgrounds, but are drawn together by a common desire to have an active role in developing housing solutions for our children, to set in place a sustainable system that will ensure provision of their housing needs long after us parents are gone.

The Mission

Our mission is to create a living environment for adults with disabilities, where they will be able to live meaningful and dignified lives with the support services that they need, have social interactions with peers, roommates and care givers, live safely and close to nature, and be connected to the wider community. MCC would not only provide a safe and comfortable residence for those on site, but also a place for leisure pursuits and vocational activities, that will enrich the lives of the individuals living in the clustered homes nearby.

The possibilities

Currently the MCC site is full of potential; proximity to services and conveniences, a ready supply of nearby homes practical for the MCC cluster additions, 5.5 acres of land, room for an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) and a large main house. Renovation of the main house is underway and we are awaiting permit approval to build an ADU, which will provide more housing for adults with disabilities.
